Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath Decries State’s Condition After Minor’s Rape
Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath, has strongly criticized the state government following the rape of a minor girl in Ujjain, stating that the state has been reduced to a “Chaupat Pradesh” or a “ruined state.” Nath’s remarks come in response to a deeply distressing incident where a 15-year-old rape survivor was discovered near an ashram, bleeding and partially unclothed, and was later confirmed to have been raped.
Nath expressed his concern about similar incidents happening in the state that often go unnoticed. He stated, “A lot of similar such incidents happen in the state that go unnoticed. While some get noticed. But there are a lot of such incidents that happen in the state whose information we do not get. ‘Aaj yeh chaupat pradesh bann gaya hai” (Today, this state has become ruined).

Arrests Made in the Case
In response to the horrifying incident, the police have taken swift action. Two suspects, both autorickshaw drivers, have been arrested. The main accused, an autorickshaw driver, has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) and under IPC section 376. The second accused, also an autorickshaw driver, faces charges of suppressing evidence. The prime accused has been remanded to a seven-day judicial custody by the Special Court in Ujjain.
Police Investigation and Medical Examination
The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Mahakal police station in Ujjain. As soon as the authorities were alerted to the situation, the girl was promptly taken for a medical examination. Due to the girl’s inability to communicate the details of the incident to the police, a counselor was called in to assist. After an interaction with the counselor, the police were able to confirm the assault on the victim. On medical grounds, a case was registered, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to conduct a thorough investigation. The police collected technical evidence, leading to the arrest of one of the autorickshaw drivers.
This incident underscores the urgency of addressing and preventing sexual violence against minors and the need for vigilance and swift action by law enforcement agencies.
