UNRWA Cuts Threaten Dire Impact in Jordan
While the focus has primarily been on the repercussions in Gaza, the suspension of aid to UNRWA could have far-reaching effects in other regions, notably Jordan, where the agency plays a crucial role in supporting Palestinian refugee communities.
Olaf Becker, UNRWA’s director in Jordan, highlighted the severe consequences if funding remains suspended after February.
The potential scale-down of services poses difficult decisions, impacting vital sectors such as healthcare, education, and sanitation.
Becker expressed concerns about the adverse effects on social cohesion in Jordan, with school closures and the broader impact on the 2.4 million Palestinian refugees in the country.
