Winter Wonderland Unfolds in Basantgarh Valley and Beyond
The Basantgarh Valley in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed the enchantment of the season’s inaugural snowfall, transforming the region into a mesmerizing winter wonderland. Mahore in Reasi district and the picturesque Gulmarg also received fresh layers of snow, blanketing the landscapes in serene white vistas.
Scenic Journeys and Tranquil Temples:
A video shared by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw showcased the Baramulla-Banihal train service in operation amid continuous and heavy snowfall, emphasizing the resilience of transportation in the snow-clad region. The Mata Vaishno Devi Temple in Katra received a coating of fresh snow, enhancing the tranquility of this sacred site.
Disruptions and Closures:
However, the winter snow brought disruptions as the Mughal Road, connecting Poonch and Rajouri districts to Srinagar, had to close for vehicular traffic due to heavy snowfall. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway also remained closed, facing road damage, shooting stones, and slush caused by relentless snowfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted heavy rain and snowfall in the mountain regions of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Uttarakhand in the coming days due to a western disturbance. The impact of this disturbance is expected not only in mountainous areas but also in plain regions like Haryana, Delhi NCR, and Uttar Pradesh.
As winter unfolds its snowy charm, the region experiences both the magic of the season and the challenges it brings, creating a delicate balance between beauty and disruption.
