Indian Men’s Hockey Team Starts South Africa Tour with 4-0 Win Over France

The Indian Men’s Hockey Team commenced their South Africa Tour with an impressive 4-0 victory against France in Cape Town.

The defense, led by goalkeepers PR Sreejesh and Krishan Pathak, remained resolute, preventing France from scoring. India’s first goal, a drag flick, came from Harmanpreet Singh in the 13th minute.

Harmanpreet added another goal in the 26th minute through a penalty corner (PC). Lalit Upadhyay converted a brilliant PC variation for India’s third goal in the 42nd minute. Hardik Singh, the Vice Captain, scored a field goal in the 49th minute, securing a 4-0 win for India.

The tournament features France, the Netherlands, India, and hosts South Africa. India’s upcoming matches are against France on January 24, South Africa on January 26, and the Netherlands on January 28.

In the draw for the Paris Olympics 2024 men’s hockey tournament, India is placed in Pool B along with Belgium and Australia.

The Indian women’s hockey team did not qualify for the Paris Olympics, missing the chance after a semifinal finish in the Tokyo Olympics and subsequent losses in the FIH Women’s Hockey Qualifiers.
