External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has been actively participating in diplomatic discussions during the two-day Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Kampala. These discussions involved leaders from various countries, including Iran, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. The summit, under the leadership of Uganda, attracted over 120 developing nations.

Meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres

S Jaishankar engaged in a productive meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the conference. They discussed Agenda 2030, UN reforms, the situation in West Asia, maritime security, and the conflict in Ukraine. This encounter underscores India’s commitment to global cooperation and reform initiatives within the United Nations.

Bilateral Talks with Iran, Colombia, and the Philippines

On the sidelines of the NAM summit, S Jaishankar held discussions with Iran’s Vice President Mohammad Mokhber, Colombian Foreign Minister Alvaro Leyva Duran, and the Philippines’ Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A Manalo. Conversations focused on bilateral ties, recent regional developments, and the shared agenda of cooperation. These diplomatic exchanges strengthen India’s relationships and promote collaboration on regional and global issues.

Wide-ranging Bilateral Engagements

S Jaishankar also met with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, emphasizing the progress of bilateral initiatives. His interactions extended to newly-appointed Bangladesh Foreign Minister Mohammed Hasan Mahmud, highlighting the growing strength of bilateral relations. Additionally, he engaged with Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki, discussing the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. The minister’s varied engagements showcase India’s commitment to fostering strong ties with nations across different regions.

As the NAM summit progresses, S Jaishankar’s diplomatic efforts contribute to India’s active role on the global stage. Following the summit, he is set to embark on a three-day visit to Nigeria from January 21, further reinforcing India’s diplomatic outreach.
