Indian Markets Open Slightly Lower Amid Global Caution
Indian benchmark indices started the trading day with marginal losses on Tuesday. At the opening bell, the Sensex showed a decline of 141.17 points or 0.19% at 73,186.77, while the Nifty was down 40.20 points or 0.18% at 22,057.30.
Notable gainers on the Nifty included BPCL, Hindalco Industries, JSW Steel, Bajaj Finance, and Bharti Airtel. On the flip side, Wipro, Eicher Motors, HCL Technologies, Tech Mahindra, and NTPC were among the losers.
The cautious start in the Indian markets mirrored the trend in Asian equities, which faced declines following a dip in European stocks and bonds. European Central Bank officials sought to temper expectations of rapid rate cuts, contributing to the cautious sentiment.
Australian and Japanese shares experienced slips, and US equity contracts edged lower after a holiday on Monday. In the bond markets, Treasuries faced declines in their first trading session since Friday, while Australian and New Zealand sovereign bonds joined the selloff.
The oil market saw a slight uptick as traders monitored geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The US issued warnings to commercial ships to avoid the Red Sea following missile strikes by Houthi militants, adding an element of uncertainty to global markets.
