Farooq Abdullah, the president of the National Conference (NC), did not attend the Enforcement Directorate’s summons for questioning in a money laundering case on Thursday, according to official sources. The 86-year-old politician was called to the central agency’s Srinagar office as part of an investigation into alleged irregularities in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).

“I am not going today,” Abdullah stated during a phone call with PTI from his residence, providing no further explanation before ending the conversation. It remains unclear whether the agency has issued a new date for his appearance.

Abdullah, who represents the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, had been charge-sheeted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the JKCA case in 2022. The case revolves around the misappropriation of funds from the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, involving transfers to various personal bank accounts of unrelated parties, including those of JKCA office bearers. Additionally, unexplained cash withdrawals from JKCA bank accounts are part of the allegations, as stated by the ED. The agency’s case is rooted in a 2018 charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against the same individuals.
