Ayodhya Making Strides Towards a Solar-Powered Future with a 40 MW Solar Power Plant
Ayodhya is taking definitive steps toward adopting clean energy solutions to meet its power needs. The development and operational stages of a solar power plant, with a capacity of 40 MW in Majha Rampur Halwara village of Navya Ayodhya, have reached their final phase.
Aligned with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision to leverage solar energy, this solar power plant, valued at Rs 200 crore, is part of Ayodhya’s comprehensive development plan under Vision 2047. Its establishment aims to transform Ayodhya into a city predominantly powered by solar energy.
Under CM Yogi’s guidance, the district administration provided 165 acres of land on a 30-year lease to the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) at a nominal rate of Rs 1 per acre per year. UPNEDA engaged NTPC Green Energy Limited to oversee the plant’s operation.
For the plant’s development, NTPC contracted Jackson Solar, a key player in India’s solar energy sector, through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The solar power plant is set to generate 8.65 crore units of power annually, with a total capacity of 40 MW.
The project involves the installation of 104,580 solar panels, each producing between 550 to 555 watts, spread across the 165-acre site. The initial operation is scheduled to commence at a 10 MW capacity upon its inauguration on January 22, with plans to swiftly scale up to full capacity.
Once running at full throttle, the plant is expected to cater to 10 percent of Ayodhya’s total electricity consumption. The generated electrical energy will be transmitted to the Darshannagar sub-station through a 132\33 KV overhead power line.
Presently, around 300 workers are deployed for plant construction, with an estimated 15-20 personnel required for ongoing operations post-completion. This initiative aligns with CM Yogi’s vision for Ayodhya’s sustainable development, offering an economical and eco-friendly power generation alternative.
The project’s environmental impact is substantial, mitigating around 47,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of 17 lakh trees. This initiative is poised to serve as a significant milestone in Ayodhya’s transformation into a model solar city, paving the way for its transition into a solar-powered metropolis.
