Update on Grounded Flight from France to Nicaragua: Indian Passengers’ Return and Ongoing Support

Arindam Bagchi, the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, provided an update on the situation involving the grounded flight from France to Nicaragua. He mentioned during a media briefing that most of the Indian passengers who were onboard the flight have returned to India. The individuals remaining in France will receive consular assistance, if needed, from the New Delhi authorities.

Bagchi highlighted that the flight, which originated from the UAE and was en route to Nicaragua, faced grounding near Paris during a technical halt. Following interventions by the Indian embassy, a significant number of passengers have safely landed in Mumbai. However, around 25 Indian citizens have chosen to remain in France.

Acknowledging the jurisdiction and handling of the cases by French authorities as per local laws, Bagchi emphasized respecting privacy and the French procedural framework. He assured that if the remaining individuals require assistance, the Indian authorities are ready to extend consular support.

The A-340 aircraft carrying 303 Indian passengers had been detained in France over suspicions of human trafficking but was permitted to continue its journey to Mumbai earlier this week.

The Indian Embassy in France expressed gratitude to the French government and Vatry Airport authorities for facilitating the safe return of Indian passengers. They also appreciated the collaborative effort and cooperation of French authorities and agencies, ensuring the welfare and smooth return of citizens amidst the challenging situation.

The embassy affirmed its commitment to continue working closely with the French government to support the well-being of the Indians currently at Vatry airport, located 150 km east of Paris, and to seek a prompt resolution. Consular staff from the embassy are present at the site to provide assistance and support.

The Indian authorities and embassy teams, in coordination with French officials, are actively engaged in addressing the situation, ensuring the welfare of citizens, and navigating the complexities to bring about a swift resolution for those remaining in France.
