COVID-19 Update: India Records 702 New Cases and Six Fatalities
The Ministry of Health reported a single-day rise of 702 COVID-19 cases, bringing the tally of active infections to 4,097.
Within a 24-hour span, six new fatalities were reported – two from Maharashtra, and one each from Karnataka, Kerala, West Bengal, and Delhi, as per the ministry’s 8 am update.
Earlier, on December 22, the country had recorded 752 new cases.
Although daily cases had declined to double digits by December 5, a recent surge followed the emergence of a new variant and cold weather conditions.
Throughout the pandemic, which commenced in early 2020, India experienced peak numbers in the lakhs, resulting in over 4.5 crore infections and more than 5.3 lakh fatalities across the nation in about four years.
On a positive note, the recovery count has surpassed 4.4 crore individuals, reflecting a national recovery rate of 98.81%, according to the ministry’s website.
Additionally, the country has administered approximately 220.67 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines, as per the official data.
