Indian Army Chief Visits Rajouri Sector Amid Ongoing Counter-Terrorism Operations
Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande is set to visit the Rajouri sector today to oversee the continuing counter-terrorist efforts, as confirmed by army officials.
Following a terrorist ambush on two Army vehicles near Thanandi in the Rajouri sector last Thursday, resulting in the tragic loss of four Army personnel and injuring three others, security forces have initiated a search operation in the forest area of Dera ki Gali in the Bafliaz region of Poonch district.
In a poignant wreath-laying ceremony held in Rajouri on Sunday, Naik Birender Singh, Rifleman Gautam Kumar, Naik Karan Kumar, and Rifleman Chandan Kumar, the fallen soldiers, were given a heartfelt farewell.
The responsibility of overseeing the Poonch-Rajouri sectors, under the 16 Corps, is undergoing a regular change in command, with Lt Gen Sandeep Jain passing the mantle to Lt Gen Naveen Sachdev.
Meanwhile, the Army Headquarters is closely monitoring the situation and the ongoing operations in the region.
Conducting an inquiry into the deaths of three civilians in the Poonch-Rajouri sector, the Indian Army affirmed its commitment to supporting the investigation into the December 21 attack, which claimed the lives of four soldiers.
In a statement, the Indian Army affirmed, “Search operations by the security forces continue post the December 21 incident. Reports indicate three civilian casualties in the area, which is currently under investigation.”
The armed forces remain steadfast in their commitment to pursuing and supporting the ongoing investigations.
The encounter initiated when terrorists fired upon two army vehicles passing through Dera Ki Gali in Rajouri’s Poonch region at 3.45 pm on Thursday.
“At around 3.45 pm on December 21, terrorists fired upon two Army vehicles moving towards the operational site. Prompt retaliation from our troops followed,” an Army official stated.
Indian Army troops swiftly retaliated following the terrorist attack, as part of reinforcing an ongoing joint operation against terrorism in the 48 Rashtriya Rifles area, continuing their vigilant efforts in the region.
