The motive behind the train robbery was to protest against the heavy taxation imposed on Indians and redirect the funds to support the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA), rather than allowing the money to remain in British hands.

Organized by the Hindustan Republican Association, the robbery led to the arrest of over 40 individuals. Subsequently, they were sentenced to death by the British government, while severe punishments were imposed on others involved in the incident.
