Gandhi extended his condolences to those who lost loved ones in the cyclone and emphasized the need for support as the cyclone progresses. Similarly, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted the cyclone’s impact in Tamil Nadu and its expected effects in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Puducherry. He stressed the importance of Union government assistance to state governments during this crisis and urged Congress workers to help fellow citizens.
Devastating Impact and Relief Efforts
The cyclone has caused significant damage, including the loss of eight lives and widespread waterlogging leading to the closure of multiple roads and subways. The Tamil Nadu police reported various fatalities due to electrocution, wall collapses, and other storm-related incidents.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inspected affected areas and relief camps in Chennai, ensuring that 162 relief centers, operating with 20 kitchens, are providing necessary aid to 2477 residents. The state has mobilized a large-scale effort to mitigate the cyclone’s impact, with 5000 workers moved to Chennai for relief works.
