Ahead of the reconstituted Congress Working Committee’s (CWC) first meeting, the Congress party highlighted its commitment to “free and open” discussions within the party. Pawan Khera, head of the Congress media and publicity department, asserted that the party’s internal democracy sets it apart from other political parties in India.
Open Election of Party President
Khera praised the party’s tradition of electing its president through an open election, emphasizing that no other party in the country has such a process. He described the election of Mallikarjun Kharge as the party president last year as a “historic milestone.”
Open Discussion in CWC
Khera emphasized that the CWC meeting would feature open discussions where every member is free to voice their opinions, suggestions, or criticisms. He highlighted this as a key aspect of how the party functions and differentiates it from other parties in India. Khera stated that this open dialogue keeps the party’s spirit vibrant and dynamic.
Historic CWC Meeting
This CWC meeting is considered historic as it occurs on the eve of assembly elections in five states and with an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Khera highlighted the party’s efforts over the past year in addressing people’s issues and taking its message to the grassroots.
Addressing Issues and Changing Politics
Khera noted that the Congress had been actively engaging with the public, addressing issues that often went unnoticed. He mentioned Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, a 4,000-km-long journey, as a turning point in the party’s approach to politics.
Taking on the BJP
While criticizing the BJP, Khera accused the ruling party of attempting to divert attention through controversies but stated that the Bharat Jodo Yatra had changed the narrative by focusing on people’s issues.
Commitment to Fulfill Expectations
Khera emphasized the party’s understanding of the responsibilities it holds and its commitment to meeting the expectations of the people.
Telangana Corruption Issue
Khera also criticized the BRS government in Telangana, alleging widespread corruption in the state. He expressed the Congress’s readiness to engage in a debate on the issue of corruption with the BRS.
CWC and Extended Working Committee Meetings
The CWC was scheduled to meet on Saturday, followed by an extended working committee meeting on Sunday, during which discussions on party organization were expected to take place.
