Indian Stock Market Closed on November 27 for Guru Nanak Jayanti

The Indian stock market observed a closure on November 27 in observance of Guru Nanak Jayanti, a significant festival for Sikhism followers. This day marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh Guru. The holiday led to a pause in trading activities across various segments.

Trading was suspended in the equity segment, equity derivatives segment, and the Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segment. Additionally, the currency derivatives market and the interest rate derivatives segment also saw a halt in trading activities for the day.

Resumption of Trading and Previous Market Performance

Trading on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) is set to resume on November 28, following the holiday. Before this closure, the Indian stock market had already observed 13 days of closure in November 2023 due to various festivals and holidays. The previous market holiday was on November 14 for Diwali Balipratipada.

Stock Market Performance on November 24

On November 24, the domestic benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, ended flat. The BSE Sensex closed slightly lower, while the Nifty 50 also saw a marginal decline. This performance was influenced by a mix of global cues, with a decline in IT and FMCG stocks, while metal and pharma stocks experienced a rise.

Upcoming Market Holiday

The next scheduled closure of the stock market will be on December 25 in celebration of Christmas.
