Apple’s cybersecurity executives from the United States are scheduled to meet with officials from India’s CERT-In to address a show cause notice related to several Indian opposition MPs receiving hacking alerts on their iPhones.

The notice was issued by CERT-In, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity), after multiple opposition leaders reported receiving Apple alerts about potential “state-sponsored attackers” targeting their iPhones. This raised concerns about government-led hacking, prompting an official response.

Minister’s Statement on Apple’s Response Requirement

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, stated that Apple’s global cybersecurity team is required to respond to the notice. The local representatives of Apple have met with CERT-In, but the issue necessitates a response from the cybersecurity experts, who are expected to travel from the US.

While the exact dates for the meeting are not confirmed, the minister anticipates the Apple team to meet CERT-In officials sometime this month. The meeting is contingent on the timely procurement of visas for the Apple team.

List of MPs Receiving Hacking Alerts

Several MPs from different political parties, including Congress, Trinamool Congress, CPI(M), SP, Shiv Sena (UBT), Aam Aadmi Party, AIMIM, and aides of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, received the notification, indicating a widespread issue.
