IAF’s ‘Tuskers’ Squadron Celebrates 75 Years of Excellence with Grand Platinum Jubilee
The Indian Air Force’s No. 5 Squadron, famously known as the ‘Tuskers’, marked its platinum jubilee in a grand event at Air Force Station Ambala, Haryana, celebrating 75 years of distinguished service.
Spectacular Air Display Marks the Celebration
The jubilee event was highlighted by a thrilling air display featuring the Suryakiran aerobatics team, the Akashganga para-diving team, and formations of Rafale and Jaguar aircraft. This display not only showcased the IAF’s aerial prowess but also paid homage to the squadron’s long and storied history.
Tribute to the ‘Tuskers’ Legacy
A special ‘postal cover’ was released by Air Marshal Tejinder Singh, the Commodore Commandant of No. 5 Squadron, as a tribute to all those who have contributed to the squadron’s rich legacy. The ceremony was attended by both serving personnel and veterans who had served in the squadron, reflecting its illustrious history.
No. 5 Squadron’s Historical Significance and Achievements
The ‘Tuskers’, established on November 2, 1948, under Wing Commander J R S ‘Danny’ Dantra, have played a pivotal role in various operations, including the Congo operations under the UN, the 1965 War with Pakistan, and the 1971 War for the Liberation of Bangladesh. The squadron’s valiant efforts in these conflicts have earned it numerous honors, including an MVC, four VrCs, and three VSMs. Today, the ‘Tuskers’ continue to lead the IAF’s deep penetration strike force with upgraded Jaguar aircraft.
