The United Kingdom is gearing up for a significant show of presence at the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) in Kolkata, with plans to send its largest delegation ever to the event. Scheduled for November 21-22, the seventh edition of the BGBS is set to witness a remarkable 55-member delegation from the UK, comprising a diverse range of businesses and institutions, as announced by the British Deputy High Commission.

Diverse Representation from the UK

The delegation poised to represent the UK at the BGBS is a mix of new-age tech firms and seasoned engineering companies. It includes innovative technology firms like Teknobuilt, AirNode, SmartViz, Xworks Tech, Hy-Met Limited, Cambridge Carbon Capture, and GreenEnco. These companies are joined by established engineering entities such as Mott Macdonald, showcasing the breadth of British expertise in various sectors.

Strengthening UK-India Business Ties

Alex Ellis, the British High Commissioner to India, expressed his anticipation for the summit. He stressed the potential of the BGBS to facilitate the expansion of British businesses in Bengal and help companies from the region to grow their presence in the UK. Dr. Andrew Fleming, the British Deputy High Commissioner to East and Northeast India, also highlighted the event’s significance in the context of the UK-India 2030 Roadmap. This roadmap is a bilateral commitment to transform trade and investment relations between the two countries.

Previous UK Participation in BGBS

The BGBS, a flagship event for attracting global investors to Bengal, had seen significant UK participation in its 2022 edition, with 49 senior figures from the UK in attendance, as per the British Deputy High Commission. This year’s increased delegation size underscores the growing importance of the UK-India economic relationship.
