Elon Musk Regrets Missing Piyush Goyal’s Visit to Tesla Fremont Factory
World’s richest man and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has expressed regret for not being able to meet India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal during his recent visit to Tesla’s Fremont, California, factory. Musk, in his response to Goyal, stated it was an “honor” to host the minister at the plant and looked forward to a future meeting.
Goyal’s Visit Highlights India’s Contribution to Tesla
During his visit, Goyal praised the significant contribution of Indian engineers and finance professionals to Tesla’s success. He noted their key roles in senior positions and highlighted Tesla’s growing engagement with Indian auto component suppliers, with plans to double its imports from India. This visit forms part of Goyal’s four-day US trip to attend key international economic summits.
Speculations on Tesla’s Expansion into India
The visit comes amid speculations about Tesla’s potential establishment of an electric vehicle factory in India. Reports suggest that the Indian government is contemplating reducing import duties on electric vehicles to 15% uniformly. However, this policy decision is yet to receive final approval within the government. Tesla has reportedly sought concessions on customs duties for imported cars in India, where currently, all completely built-up vehicles are subjected to significant import duties based on their price range.
