Assam STF’s Major Drug Bust: Rs 1.2 Crore Worth of Contraband Seized

The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking in Kamrup district. In a successful operation conducted on Friday night, they seized contraband drugs valued at around Rs 1.2 crore and apprehended a key drug peddler. This operation demonstrates the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the illicit drug trade in the region.

Strategic Operation and Arrest of Drug Peddler

Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the STF, provided details of the operation to ANI. Acting on credible source information, a team led by Kalyan Pathak, Additional Superintendent of Police, STF, intercepted an Arunachal Pradesh-bound bus in the Baihata area of Kamrup district. The operation, supervised by Partha Sarathi Mahanta himself, resulted in the capture of Baten Ali from Bheragaon under Kalgachia police station. Ali was found in possession of 10 boxes of heroin and several vials weighing 150 grams.

Legal Proceedings and Drug Valuation

Following the arrest, necessary legal actions are being initiated against the apprehended individual. The seized heroin, devoid of any cover, carries an estimated market value of Rs 1.2 crore, highlighting the significant financial stakes involved in the illegal drug market.

Earlier STF Operations in Assam

This recent operation comes on the heels of another significant seizure earlier in the week by the Assam STF. On Tuesday, at Amingaon, the STF recovered 36 kg of opium, valued at Rs 6 crore, from a vehicle and apprehended four people involved in the trafficking. These back-to-back successful operations by the STF underline their commitment and effectiveness in clamping down on drug trafficking in the state.
