    India’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi announced the schedule for the winter session of Parliament, confirming that the session will commence in December and feature 15 sittings over a span of 19 days.

    The minister’s communication indicated that the winter session will run from December 4 to December 22, 2023. This period of legislative activity, referred to as “Amrit Kaal,” is anticipated to include discussions on various legislative matters and other significant agenda items.

    Assembly Polls to Precede Parliamentary Proceedings

    Significantly, the parliamentary session is set to begin just after the assembly poll results in five key states are declared. The results from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, and Telangana are expected to have a substantial impact on the discourse within the session.

    Anticipating Legislative Reforms and Opposition Scrutiny

    Among the legislative business to be potentially addressed are the bills aimed at overhauling the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Evidence Act. In addition to the government’s legislative plans, opposition parties are poised to seek discussions on pressing issues of their concern during this session.
