US Ties With Pakistan or Any Country Will Never Come at India’s Expense: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio
NEW DELHI, October 21, 2026 [VoM News]: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has sought to address concerns in New Delhi over Washington’s growing engagement with Pakistan and China, saying America’s relationship with any country would not come at the expense of its ties with India. The Indian Express
In an interview with The Indian Express during his India visit, Rubio said comparisons between the Trump administration’s approach and US policy towards South Asia during the Nixon-Kissinger era were inappropriate because the global geopolitical environment had fundamentally changed. Responding to concerns over Washington’s engagement with Pakistan’s military leadership, Rubio stressed that the United States did not view its relationship with Islamabad as competing with its partnership with New Delhi.
He said US engagement with Pakistan could potentially be used to discourage actions that might contribute to regional conflict.
Rubio pointed to continuing diplomatic engagement and negotiations on an India-US trade agreement as evidence of Washington’s commitment to its relationship with New Delhi. He said the proposed trade agreement was close to completion, with about 99 per cent of the work finished. The Indian Express
Rubio also addressed the Russia-Ukraine conflict, acknowledging the difficulties involved in finding a negotiated settlement and describing the four-year-old war as a complex issue.
