Rahul Gandhi Leads Opposition March to Rashtrapati Bhavan, Seeks Resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar; mobile internet services on a 24-hour halt
NEW DELHI, October 9, 2026 [VoM News]: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday led a march of Opposition MPs from Parliament to Rashtrapati Bhavan where a delegation handed a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu demanding from the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar the resignation of the top official.
Before the march, almost 150 leaders of the INDIA bloc met in Parliament’s Central Hall. The memorandum was signed by representatives of 16 Opposition parties, who questioned the working and neutrality of the Election Commission of India.
On being met by the President, Gandhi made allegations of irregularities in the electoral system and asserted that the Opposition had evidence to back its allegations. “We have all the proof of how elections were stolen. Gandhi said that it has been witnessed by the entire country and the President Murmu had also asked for proof in the meeting.
Rashtrapati Bhavan did not provide any official comment immediately about Gandhi’s report of the talks. Gandhi also pointed out that the Opposition leaders would head to the Supreme Court on Monday and place a memorandum before the Chief Justice of India.
In the meantime, Delhi Police beefed up security measures before a protest on October 10, which was organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) that is also calling for the resignation of the CEC. It was reported that the army will mobilise over 20,000 personnel in the capital in sensitive areas.
Meanwhile, police also reportedly put mobile internet services on a 24-hour halt in a four-kilometre radius of the Janpath-Kartavya Path crossing from Friday at 10 pm.
