Global Stock Markets Fall as Oil Prices Surge 4% Amid US-Iran War Conflict

NEW DELHI, October 9, 2026 [VoM News]: On Thursday, crude oil prices rose over four percent, after the United States and Iran continued their war, and energy supply risks and corporate debts grew, driving down global stock indexes, Reuters reported.

Wall Street was down, with the S&P 500 dropping about 0.5 percent and the Nasdaq Composite, which is heavy on technology stocks, shedding about 1.3 percent. Despite the impressive earnings of top Asian chip makers, semiconductor stocks did not fare well.

Investors swarmed around the oil market as international prices surged due to concerns about potential disruptions to global supply as the Middle East conflict and a hurricane threatened the US Gulf Coast.

Brent crude futures rose $4.08, 4.1 percent, to $104.28 per barrel.

European shares were also down, with the pan-European STOXX 600 Index falling 0.75 percent, and France’s CAC 40 index dropping by around 0.5 percent.

But investor sentiment was further strained by worries over government debt, low growth and high corporate debt.

An improvement in crude oil prices may lead to higher transportation and manufacturing costs, which may impact the profitability of businesses and consumer prices.

As geopolitical uncertainty persists, investors continue to watch events in the US-Iran conflict, as well as any potential implications for international energy trade and other economic risks.
