BREAKING: Trump Names Jay Clayton to Lead New White House AI Task Force

Trump appoints intelligence chief Jay Clayton to head up new US ‘Super Intelligence Force’.

WASHINGTON, October 4, 2026 [VoM News]: With AI being a major focus in Washington today, both in terms of technological development and the safety and societal impact of these systems, the United States is putting together a new White House AI task force that will be led by director of national intelligence (DNI) Jay Clayton, AFP reported.

The panel will be called the “Super Intelligence Force” because his administration has opted to adopt the term “Super Intelligence” for communications in the executive branch. The White House established the terms in an executive order on September 29.

The task force will be responsible for advancing the United States’ position in cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies, Trump said, while “preserving U.S. interests and enhancing the quality of life for its citizens.

The group will be tasked with reviewing opportunities and risks of the rapidly evolving AI systems and provide recommendations on the federal government’s role within 120 days. It will also interact with technology companies, consumers, public interest organizations, religious groups and critical infrastructure providers.

Other members of the task force are Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon technology official Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. The group will report to Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

Clayton is currently Director of National Intelligence for the United States and formerly chaired the Securities and Exchange Commission under Trump. The appointment puts the country’s top intelligence official at the heart of the government’s new AI policy.

The announcement coincides with growing concerns in Washington about potential risks posed by AI, such as cybersecurity threats, job losses, and the prospect of more and more autonomous systems acting in ways that are unpredictable. But Trump has not been adamant about general limitations that he fears would hamper the nation’s innovation and provide China with an edge in the world technology race.

His government is also trying to fast-track the introduction of cutting-edge AI systems in the U.S. national-security sector, while keeping them under control and accountable. Similarly, Clayton has made US leadership a national security issue, saying that falling behind the other nations could lead to increased threats.

The new Super Intelligence Force is a result of a White House meeting with executives from key technology firms and is the government’s latest effort to line up federal policy as AI becomes a bigger part of the U.S. economy, national security and geopolitical competition.
