BREAKING: Suicide Bombing in Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan Kills 12, Injures 30

A suicide car bombing targeting a police roadblock in Pakistan’s northwestern region left at least 12 people dead and 30 others injured on Saturday, police and rescue officials said.

Police and rescue sources said a suicide bomber drove an explosives-packed vehicle into a police checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan, a district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The police also stated that the death toll included two officers from the department of customs and excise. The bomb disposal unit was reportedly sent to the scene to establish the type of explosives that were used in the attack.

According to Rescue 1122, the injured and the dead have been shifted to a hospital in the neighbourhood. Some of those wounded are in serious condition.

Rescue 1122’s Darazinda station reached the scene of incident and started rescue operations to treat the injured and shift them to a hospital, it added.

The operation was claimed by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, or the Pakistani Taliban, an independent group that is allied with the Afghani Taliban that retook power in Afghanistan in 2021.

Officials said gunmen then shot at an ambulance that arrived at the site of the suicide bombing.

AP, quoting provincial emergency service spokesman Bilal Faizi. The local police chief, Safdar Baloch, said the majority of those dead or injured were security officers and pedestrians.

These kinds of security breaches have been widespread in the district this month, including those by the Pakistani Taliban.

The blast collapsed the police offices’ outer wall and badly damaged the mosque.

A bomb exploded inside the mosque killing 21 and injuring 78. Among those killed were 15 police officers because the bombing took place near a police building.
