MP’s Mandate Is to Be J&K’s Voice, Not Destabilise NC Govt: NC MLA Javed Beg on MP Aga Ruhullah

SRINAGAR, September 21, 2026 [VoM News]: As the fiasco continues between National Conference and
Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, now, the MLA Javid Hassan Baig has criticised the Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi in stronger terms.

He urged Aga to focus on raising the concerns of Jammu and Kashmir in Parliament rather than targeting the National Conference and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

During a mediatalk, Baig said voters had given Ruhullah a mandate to represent their concerns in Parliament and that the MP should use the platform to raise issues affecting the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The upset MP Ruhullah has to think that people have not mandated him to be upset. He has to be the voice of the people in Parliament and give a sigh of relief to his people from the House and not destabilise the National Conference and demean Chief Minister Omar Abdullah,” Baig said, according to Kashmir News Observer.

Baig further said Ruhullah should direct his political criticism towards the BJP-led government at the Centre rather than the National Conference, arguing that issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir should be pursued at the national level.

The remarks come amid an increasingly public rift between Ruhullah and the NC leadership.

As the Srinagar MP has heavily criticised his party over several issues, including its approach towards Article 370, the reservation policy and other political questions concerning Jammu and Kashmir, thus, creating a rift between Syed Aga Ruhullah and his party.

Earlier this month, Baig had appealed to Ruhullah to reconsider his decision to resign and urged him to hold discussions with the party leadership, particularly Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, to resolve differences.

Ruhullah has said he intends to resign from both the National Conference and the Lok Sabha on November 3. He currently represents the Srinagar constituency in Parliament after being elected on an NC ticket in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
