ISRO Eyes September 4 Comeback Launch With EOS 5 After Two Consecutive PSLV Failures

NEW DELHI, INDIA, AUGUST 29 [VoM News]: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is poised to make a much-anticipated comeback after almost 8 months out and two consecutive failed PSLV launches.

Chairman of ISRO, V Narayanan, has announced in a chat with NDTV that the organisation aims to launch EOS 5 aboard GSLV F17 in the very early hours of September 4.

EOS 5, known earlier as GISAT 1A, is an observational satellite which promises to bring to us the image of India continuously from almost 36,000 kilometers above Earth.

Its repeated imaging of the Indian landmass through the day will allow near real-time monitoring of cyclones, cloud bursts, floods, wildfires and other fast-developing disasters; it can help agriculture planners, security agencies and weather forecasters improve their forecast for a swift-developing natural disaster, and also helps us to monitor the situation after the disaster occurs.

Narayanan further states that ISRO plans to have seven launches scheduled between now and March 2027, one of them being G1 which is India’s first unmanned mission towards the Gaganyaan human space flight program.

Over the next year the agency wants to launch 12 satellites and have 8 launch vehicle missions dealing with communication, navigation, earth observation, and basic research missions.

The PSLV is kept on hold during the testing & validation period but this does not hold true with engines, launch vehicle components of the GSLV MKII because they are not of the PSLV design.

This particular launch also brings with it painful memory of the failure on August 12, 2021 of the GSLV F10 mission carrying EOS 03, it was lost due to a indigenous cryogenic stage upper-end propulsion system.

With this success or failure we will be demonstrating the GSLV MKII vehicle, its reliability which we already have achieved, given the NISAR mission which has the most expensive and only time India attempted an Earth-imaging satellite and proved its abilities in the realm of cryogenic propulsion.
