Activist Sonam Wangchuk Sets Three Conditions to End Hunger Strike

New Delhi, July 20, 2026 [VoM News]: As the renowned activist Sonam Wangchuk sat on a hunger strike for now more than 20 days, hinted that he would end his fast only if three key conditions are met.

He revealed his pointers in a handwritten letter shared from Safdarjung Hospital, where he claimed he was under “illegal detention”, Wangchuk said the government must first accept responsibility for alleged failures in the education system, particularly the NEET question paper leak.

Secondly, he pointed out the condition that political leaders assure him the issue of paper leaks will be raised in Parliament.

Thirdly, he called for the demand that senior political leaders visit him at the hospital and personally assure him of the first two conditions if his health prevents him from joining the planned Parliament march.

Sonam Wangchuk also alleged that his freedom of movement, speech and communication had been restricted while he remained at the hospital.

As the the activist was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital on July 18 after doctors warned that his prolonged fast had become a medical emergency. The Delhi Police intervened following concerns over his deteriorating health, a day after the Delhi High Court directed authorities to take all necessary steps to protect his life.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court declined interim relief on a plea filed by Wangchuk’s wife seeking his transfer to a private hospital, observing that doctors at Safdarjung Hospital were closely monitoring his condition and that there was no evidence of force being used against him. His family is expected to challenge the order before a division bench.
