A group of six terrorists launched an assault on a security forces’ post in the general area of North Waziristan’s Mir Ali in the early hours of Saturday. The ISPR revealed that the terrorists employed an explosives-laden vehicle to breach the post, followed by multiple suicide bombings after the initial intrusion was thwarted.

According to the ISPR, five soldiers lost their lives during the ensuing gunfight, and a portion of a building collapsed. The soldiers who perished in the initial attack were identified as Havildar Sabir, Naik Khurshid, Sepoy Nasir, Sepoy Raja, and Sepoy Sajjad.
“During the conduct of the ensuing clearance operation, own troops led by Lieutenant Colonel Kashif, effectively engaged and killed all six terrorists,” the ISPR stated. Tragically, Lieutenant Colonel Syed Kashif Ali (39) and Captain Muhammad Ahmed Badar (23) succumbed to the exchange of fire.
Amidst the grief, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari vehemently condemned the attack. Zardari extended condolences to the bereaved families and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to eradicate terrorism. PM Sharif labeled the assault as a ‘cowardly move’ by the terrorists, praising the security forces for thwarting their sinister intentions. He offered prayers for the departed souls and condolences to the victims’ families.

The terror attack in Mir Ali underscores Pakistan’s ongoing battle against terrorism, particularly in regions like Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Since the ceasefire between outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and the Pakistani government ended in November 2022, the nation has witnessed a surge in terrorist activities.
According to a security report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies cited by Dawn, Pakistan recorded 1,524 violence-related fatalities and 1,463 injuries from 789 terror attacks and counter-terror operations in 2023. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan bore the brunt of this violence, accounting for over 90% of all fatalities and 84% of attacks.
Earlier this month, Pakistani security forces eliminated 10 terrorists in separate operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district. Operations spanning March 8-9 resulted in the demise of four terrorists, followed by the successful neutralization of four more during a sanitization operation. In another operation, five terrorists attempting to infiltrate the Pakistan-Afghanistan border were engaged, leading to the demise of two terrorists and injuries to three others.
