6 Killed, Several Injured in Stampede at Temple in Lakhisarai, Bihar

Lakhisarai (Bihar), Aug. 17: Six people are believed to have died and many injured in a stampede during a religious gathering at the Ashok Dham Temple in Lakhisarai district, officials said today.

This happened on the third Monday of the holy Sawan month, when huge crowd of devotees was present at the temple for worship.

According to reports, the huge influx of worshippers is said to have created pandemonium around the temple area, thus resulting in the stampede. People were trampled in the crush and injured.

The injured were rushed to hospital and rescue and relief operations were launched by the officials.

After the incident, the police and local administration officials arrived at the temple and took stock of the scenario. We are still awaiting further details regarding the factors which caused the stampede and the names of the deceased.

This happened at a time when temples in the state of Bihar and other states were witnessing huge congregations of devotees during Sawan, especially on Mondays.

It is understood that authorities will check the management at the temple.
