In a setback for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana, three Independent MLAs have withdrawn their support. This development, occurring during the Lok Sabha polls and shortly after Nayab Singh Saini assumed office as Chief Minister, follows criticisms of rising inflation and unemployment. The MLAs, including Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Golan, and Dharampal Gondar, announced their decision to back the Congress during a press conference in Rohtak.
Nayab Singh Saini, blaming the Congress for the defection, expressed skepticism about the motives behind the move. Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, present at the press conference, highlighted the erosion of trust in the current government, signaling a potential shift in political dynamics.
While Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri maintained uncertainty about the reports, Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda asserted BJP’s loss of majority in the Haryana assembly. Randhir Golan, one of the withdrawing MLAs, cited soaring inflation and unemployment during the BJP’s tenure as reasons for their decision.
However, Haryana CM’s Media Secretary Praveen Attrey reassured the government’s stability, citing current majority support. He emphasized the legal constraints against moving a no-confidence motion, given past attempts by the opposition.
