Two Terrorists, Including One Linked to Killing of Kashmiri Pandit, Killed in Encounter in Jammu and Kashmir
In a recent operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, security forces successfully neutralized two terrorists, identified as Morifat Maqbool and Jazim Farooq, alias Abrar, who was associated with the terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT). One of the slain terrorists, Abrar, was known for his involvement in the killing of Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Sharma in February of this year.
The encounter took place during an anti-terror operation in Shopian’s Alshipora area. The swift and effective action by the security forces led to the elimination of these terrorists.
The Kashmir Zone Police shared this significant development on social media, stating, “Two (02) #terrorists killed. Search going on. Killed #terrorists have been identified as Morifat Maqbool & Jazim Farooq @ Abrar of #terror outfit LeT. #Terrorist Abrar was involved in killing of Kashmiri Pandit late Sanjay Sharma: ADGP Kashmir.”
Sanjay Sharma, a bank security guard, tragically lost his life in February when he was shot by terrorists while on his way to a market near his home. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Notably, this is the second encounter in which terrorists involved in Sharma’s killing have been eliminated. Two days after the attack on Sharma, another terrorist linked to his killing, Aquib Mushtaq Bhat, was shot dead in an encounter conducted by the army and the police in Pulwama’s Padgampora village on February 28. Both of these terrorists were associated with the Lashkar-e-Toiba.
Sanjay Sharma’s killing in February marked the first attack on a Hindu civilian in Jammu and Kashmir that year, occurring after a span of over four months.
The successful operation to eliminate these terrorists is a testament to the unwavering commitment of security forces to maintain peace and security in the region.
