
12,977 Teacher Posts Vacant in Jammu Kashmir, Govt Informs Assembly
SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday informed the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly that 12,977 posts of Teachers are currently lying vacant across the Union Territory.
Of the total vacancies, 7,985 posts are in Jammu Division, while 4,992 posts are in Kashmir Division, according to the district-wise data tabled before the House.
District-Wise Break-Up of Vacancies
Kashmir Division (4,992 Vacancies)
- Anantnag – 1,016
- Budgam – 797
- Pulwama – 764
- Kupwara – 621
- Srinagar – 535
- Bandipora – 310
- Baramulla – 284
- Shopian – 256
- Ganderbal – 244
- Kulgam – 165
Anantnag accounts for the highest number of teacher vacancies in the division.
Jammu Division (7,985 Vacancies)
- Rajouri – 1,416
- Kathua – 1,332
- Jammu – 1,234
- Udhampur – 912
- Poonch – 946
- Doda – 866
- Reasi – 479
- Samba – 345
- Kishtwar – 312
- Ramban – 143
Rajouri has the highest number of vacancies in Jammu Division, followed by Kathua and Jammu district.

Promotions and Transition Process
The government informed the House that all available and anticipated teacher vacancies are being utilised for the transition of Teacher Grade-II and Teacher Grade-III.
Additionally, 1,946 promotional vacancies of Masters are under process. Of these, 1,722 pertain to Kashmir Division and 224 to Jammu Division.
In Kashmir, Kupwara leads with 352 promotional vacancies, followed by Anantnag (316) and Budgam (198). In Jammu Division, Jammu district has 44 promotional vacancies, Rajouri 32, Kathua 29, Udhampur 24 and Poonch 22, among others.
The government stated that all promotional vacancies of Masters are being filled through Divisional Level Departmental Promotion Committees (DPCs) in accordance with the prescribed rules.
