DGP’s Compassionate Visit
Director General of Police (DGP) Jammu and Kashmir, R.R. Swain, exhibited a remarkable display of empathy as he visited the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in the evening. His purpose was to inquire about the health and welfare of Police Inspector Masroor Wani, who recently fell victim to a terrorist attack. This heartwarming visit came after Inspector Wani was targeted by a terrorist with pistol shots while he was playing cricket with other members of the local community.
Leaders by His Side
DGP Swain was not alone in his compassionate mission. Accompanying him were other distinguished officers, including ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar, SSP Srinagar Ashish Mishra, and various other jurisdictional officers. Their presence reinforced the importance of unity and support in the face of adversity.

Critical Health Condition
During the visit, the DGP expressed his concern about Inspector Wani’s health condition. Medical Superintendent Farooq John conveyed the grim news that the officer’s medical condition remained critical, and he continued to rely on life support systems for survival.
Assurances of Support
DGP Swain wasted no time in ensuring that the best possible treatment was provided to the ailing police officer. Additionally, he engaged in a heartfelt conversation with Inspector Wani’s father, assuring him of all the help and support that the government and police department could offer. Notably, Swain informed the concerned father that key figures, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, and Additional Chief Secretary (Home) R.K. Goyal, were diligently monitoring the injured officer’s health on a daily basis.
Financial Assistance and Beyond
As a gesture of support, the DGP presented Inspector Wani’s family with a financial assistance of Rupees 01 lakh to assist with immediate medical expenses. Swain also pledged the full backing of the government and the police department, even mentioning the possibility of an airlift for the officer outside the Union Territory if deemed necessary.
Strength in Unity
In a final expression of solidarity, the DGP emphasized that the prayers of thousands of police personnel and common citizens were with the family. He urged them to remain brave in the face of adversity, showcasing the unwavering unity and support that exists within the community.
