Iran Warns US Against Any Attempt to Seize Kharg Island Amid Escalating Tensions
Tehran: Delivering a stern warning to the United States, Iran has hinted of serious consequences if United States attempts to seize Kharg Island, which is the country’s main oil export terminal.
As US President Donald Trump made renewed comments about expanding military action against Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said any US military “adventure” would face a strong response, adding that many Iranians were prepared to confront American forces in the event of a ground operation.
Baghaei also said there was “no ambiguity” in the interim memorandum of understanding signed with the United States, describing it as a 14-clause agreement.

He reiterated that Iran would continue to manage the Strait of Hormuz in consultation with Oman and other regional countries, while urging Washington to honour its commitments.
Kharg Island, located about 55 kilometres off Iran’s southern coast, handles around 90 per cent of the country’s oil exports and is considered a strategic economic asset.
Trump has recently suggested expanding US military operations against Iran.
Reports indicate options under consideration include intensified airstrikes, strikes on suspected nuclear facilities, and the possible seizure of Kharg Island.
