Haryana Witnesses Decline in Crime Rate, Initiates New Measures
The Haryana Police has reported a notable reduction in various crime categories throughout the year 2023, attributing it to the stringent work approach adopted by the force. According to an official press release, significant declines in crime rates have been observed across multiple fronts.
Crime against women in the state has decreased by 12 per cent, while instances of robbery have seen a substantial 30 per cent reduction. Furthermore, there’s been an 18.33 per cent decrease in snatching cases and an 8 per cent decline in severe injury cases compared to the previous year.
The press note highlighted that the Haryana Police, under the guidance of Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujit Kapoor, places immense importance on taking feedback from victimized women regarding crimes against them. The release mentioned plans to train district teams with expert guidance to combat crimes targeting women and children. In Gurugram district, a unique initiative is being rolled out, aiming to educate women police personnel about the challenges faced by women and girls in schools.
Regarding cases registered under section 498A related to dowry, the official statement confirmed a significant decision. Now, cases will be filed against the accused after comprehensive investigations based on the woman’s complaint.
The DGP, while addressing the Superintendents of Police (SPs) in a meeting, emphasized the enforcement of lane discipline on specific highways passing through their jurisdictions. Measures to encourage proper lane driving have been undertaken by engaging with representatives from transport unions.
DGP Kapoor further revealed that between December 1 and December 13, around 6000 vehicles violating lane discipline have been issued challans. These initiatives and strict enforcement demonstrate the Haryana Police’s commitment to maintaining law and order while focusing on crime prevention and citizen safety.
