In a significant political move, the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), led by Ghulam Nabi Azad, declared G M Saroori as its candidate for the Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat in the forthcoming general polls. The announcement unfolded during a compelling public rally orchestrated by Azad at Chrar-e-Shareef in Budgam district, situated in the heart of central Kashmir.

Expressing his conviction, Azad asserted, “For Udhampur-Doda, it is my intention, and I will discuss it with others that G M Saroori will contest.” Azad highlighted Saroori’s remarkable leadership, emphasizing his four-time MLA status and role as the vice chairperson of the DPAP. “He is the most senior leader, and we have not yet taken a final decision, but we have zeroed in on the name,” Azad stated confidently during a press interaction post the rally.

DPAP Announces G M Saroori:Deliberation on Other Constituencies and Election Strategy
Azad shed light on the party’s approach regarding candidates for other constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir. While disclosing that no final decisions have been made, he expressed confidence that the timing of candidate announcements would not significantly impact their electoral prospects. “Even if the candidate comes at the eleventh hour, it will not make much of a difference,” Azad explained, emphasizing the extensive groundwork he has undertaken, addressing approximately 650 public meetings in the past year and a half.
In a departure from his former political affiliation, Azad criticized the Congress party’s lack of work culture and leadership failures. He underscored the importance of respect within the party and took a subtle dig at the Congress by stating, “They take the names of junior leaders first at any function and senior leaders at the last.” Azad also reiterated his commitment to enacting a law safeguarding land and job rights for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the assembly’s prerogative to enact such legislation if the DPAP comes to power.
