The post-mortem examinations of five Indian Army soldiers, who lost their lives in the July 8 terror attack in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, were completed at the Sub District Hospital Billawar. The Indian Army had earlier airlifted the bodies from the Machedi area where the attack occurred.
Billawar Additional Deputy Commissioner Vinay Khosla informed reporters that eight injured soldiers were also brought to Billawar Hospital. “An unfortunate incident took place yesterday in which 5 soldiers died. Strict action will be taken against the terrorists responsible for this. Eight injured soldiers were brought to Billawar Hospital, with six later shifted to Pathankot Hospital for further treatment,” Khosla said. He added that security forces remain on high alert.
Khosla addressed the public’s concerns, stating that field functionaries are actively working to build confidence among the people and prevent future attacks. “Our field functionaries are doing rounds and are striving to build confidence-building measures among the people. We will attempt to ensure that such attacks do not happen in the future,” he said.
In response to the attack, security has been intensified along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Jammu and Kashmir police have been deployed, particularly in Udhampur, as the 11th batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims passed through on Tuesday morning. Multi-layered security arrangements have been put in place to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.
Since June 9, there have been multiple terror strikes in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda, resulting in the deaths of nine pilgrims and a CRPF jawan. A civilian and at least seven security personnel were also injured in these incidents. Following these attacks, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a review meeting on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, directing all security agencies to work in a mission mode and ensure a quick, coordinated response to any threats.
