Rachin Ravindra Injured as New Zealand Defeat Pakistan in Tri-Series
New Zealand’s young all-rounder Rachin Ravindra suffered a painful injury while fielding during the second ODI against Pakistan. The 25-year-old was struck on the face while attempting a catch off Pakistan’s Khushdil Shah at backward square leg in the 38th over. As Khushdil swept Michael Bracewell’s delivery, Ravindra seemingly lost sight of the ball under the lights, leading to a direct impact on his face. He immediately fell to the ground, bleeding, as the medical team rushed in to assist. He was taken off the field with his face covered by a towel.

Despite the setback, New Zealand secured a dominant 78-run victory over Pakistan in the opening match of the tri-nation series in Lahore. Glenn Phillips starred with a maiden century, scoring an unbeaten 106 off 74 balls, smashing seven sixes and six boundaries. His knock propelled New Zealand to a commanding total of 330-6 in 50 overs. Daryl Mitchell (81) and Kane Williamson (58) provided crucial contributions, while Bracewell added a quick 31 off 23 balls. The visitors plundered 123 runs in the last 10 overs, including 84 from the final five.
In response, Pakistan managed 252 in 47.5 overs, struggling against Mitchell Santner’s impressive spell of 3-41. Speaking after the match, Santner praised Phillips’ match-winning innings, saying, “The Pakistan bowlers bowled really well, and we needed a special knock from Glenn to take us to 330.”
The tri-nation series, which also features South Africa, serves as a warm-up for the Champions Trophy, scheduled to take place from February 19 to March 9 in Pakistan and the UAE.
