JD(S) Takes Action Against Rebellion, Dissolves State Committee, Names Kumaraswamy as Ad Hoc President

In a strategic move, JD(S) national president H.D. Deve Gowda has dissolved the party’s State Executive Committee and appointed former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy as the party’s ad hoc president. This development comes in response to the defiance of C.M. Ibrahim, who raised objections against the JD(S)-BJP alliance.

Aims of the BJP-JD(S) Alliance

During a press conference to announce the appointment, Mr. Deve Gowda stated that the decision to form an alliance with the BJP was made with the intention of strengthening and revitalizing the party. All party MLAs, MLCs, and district presidents were present at the emergency meeting.

Status of C.M. Ibrahim

While the party did not officially “expel” Mr. Ibrahim, the dissolution of the Executive Committee effectively removes him from his position as the State party president. Mr. Ibrahim had been vocal in his opposition to the JD(S) aligning with the BJP, even suggesting the possibility of a party split and labeling his faction as the “original” JD(S).

Response from H.D. Kumaraswamy

In response to Mr. Ibrahim’s rebellion, Mr. Kumaraswamy, on October 17, criticized his actions and indicated that the party would take stern action against him. He suggested that if Mr. Ibrahim believes his faction is the original JD(S), he is free to declare it as such. This statement emphasized the party’s commitment to the alliance with the BJP.

The move to restructure the party’s leadership is a significant step in the midst of internal divisions, and it reflects the JD(S)’s determination to maintain its alliance with the BJP.
