Indian Coast Guard Director General Honored with Ati Vishisht Seva Medal on Republic Day
Indian Coast Guard Director General, Rakesh Pal, has been awarded the prestigious Ati Vishisht Seva Medal as part of this year’s Republic Day celebrations. Rakesh Pal, holding the recognition of being the First Gunner of ICG, has undergone specialized training in Gunnery and Weapons Systems at the Indian Naval School Dronacharya, Kochi, and an Electro-Optics Fire Control Solution course in the United Kingdom.
Distinguished Career Spanning Over 34 Years
With an illustrious career spanning over 34 years, Rakesh Pal has served in various key appointments afloat and ashore. Noteworthy among them are Commander Coast Guard Region (North West), Gandhinagar, Deputy Director General (Policy and Plans), and Additional Director General Coast Guard at Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi. He has also held prestigious staff assignments such as Director (Infra and Works) and Principal Director (Administration) at Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi.
Vast Sea Experience and Command of ICG Ships
Rakesh Pal boasts extensive sea experience, having commanded all classes of ICG ships, including ICGS Samarth, ICGS Vijit, ICGS Sucheta Kriplani, ICGS Ahalyabai, and ICGS C-03. Additionally, he has commanded two Coast Guard bases in the forward area of Gujarat, Okha, and Vadinar. Elevated to the rank of Additional Director General in February 2022, he was appointed as Additional Director General Coast Guard at Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi.
Major Operations and Exercises Under His Supervision
During Rakesh Pal’s apex supervision, the Indian Coast Guard has successfully conducted major operations and exercises. These include the seizure of drugs/narcotic substances and gold worth crores of rupees, rescue operations during severe cyclonic storms, joint exercises with Foreign Coast Guard, anti-poaching operations, humanitarian assistance during cyclones/natural calamities, and Coastal Security exercises.
Recognition and Awards for Distinguished Service
For his dedicated and distinguished service, Rakesh Pal has been honored with the Tatrakshak Medal (TM) in 2013 and the President Tatrakshak Medal (PTM) in 2018. The Ati Vishisht Seva Medal on Republic Day further underscores his commitment and contributions to the Indian Coast Guard.
