Congress Manifesto Promises Gold and Cash for Women

In preparation for the upcoming Assembly polls scheduled for November 30 in Telangana, the Congress party is gearing up to release a manifesto with enticing promises. The manifesto is expected to include pledges such as ten grams of gold to eligible women at the time of marriage, along with a cash amount of Rs one lakh under the party’s ‘Mahalakshmi’ guarantee.

Gold and Cash for Women

According to D Sridhar Babu, the chairman of the TPCC manifesto committee, the Congress’s manifesto will offer brides a significant gift of ten grams of gold in addition to the financial assistance of Rs one lakh. This move is aimed at empowering women and supporting their financial independence. Currently, the Telangana government, under the Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak Schemes, provides financial assistance of Rs 1,00,116 to brides at the time of marriage if they meet certain eligibility criteria.

Free Internet for Students

In addition to the promises for women, the Congress party is considering incorporating free internet for students in its manifesto. The party intends to engage with internet service providers to work out the modalities of this initiative, emphasizing the importance of digital connectivity and access to education.

Counterarguments and Political Rivalry

The Bharatiya Rashtravadi Samanta Party (BRS) has responded to these promises with skepticism, asserting that the Congress government in Karnataka has faced challenges in implementing similar pledges. BRS spokesperson Sravan Dasoju highlighted Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s innovative policies and programs for the poor, emphasizing that KCR is known for his generosity and compassion toward the marginalized.

In response to the Congress’s promises, KCR and the BRS have released their own manifesto, offering LPG cylinders at a subsidized rate of Rs 400 and an increase in social pensions, countering the Congress party’s “six guarantees” for the Telangana polls.

The release of such manifestos and promises underscores the competitive nature of the political landscape in Telangana, as different parties vie for the support of the electorate through various initiatives and offerings.
