BJP Announces Candidates for Mizoram Assembly Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming assembly polls in Mizoram. The list includes 12 candidates for various constituencies in the state. Notably, BJP’s Mizoram unit chief, Vanlalhmuaka, will contest elections from the Dampa constituency, and former Mizoram Assembly speaker Lalrinliana Sailo has been fielded from the Mamit constituency.

Congress Candidate Lineup

In contrast, the Congress party had already announced its candidates for all 40 seats in the Mizoram Assembly elections. In the first list of 39 candidates, Congress fielded candidates for key constituencies, including the Aizwal East-I constituency, which is currently held by Mizo National Front (MNF) president and Chief Minister Zoramthanga. Other Congress candidates include Lalsawta for Aizawl West-III (ST), Lalnunmawia Chuaungo for Aizawl North-I (ST), and Lalrindika Ralte for Hachhek (ST), among others.

Background on Assembly Seats

In the 2018 Mizoram assembly elections, the Mizo National Front emerged as the winner with 26 out of the 40 seats. Congress secured five seats, while the BJP won one seat.

Election Dates

The assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Mizoram on November 7, along with other states, including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana. The counting of votes for these states will take place on December 3.
