AAP Enters LAHDC Elections for the First Time

In a bid to establish a significant presence in the Union Territory of Ladakh, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is now participating in its inaugural election for the Kargil Hill Development Council in the region.

According to sources within the party, AAP has been diligently working to make inroads into the region and attract new, educated individuals to support their cause. The leadership of the Union Territory has also been making concerted efforts to garner support in Kargil, with four of their candidates participating in the LAHDC polls for the first time. However, not all potential candidates aligned with the party’s objectives, leading to some not receiving the party’s endorsement and support.

It’s worth noting that four AAP candidates are making their debut in the Kargil elections. The Kargil Hill Development Council consists of a total of 30 seats, with 26 being filled through elections and 4 appointed by the administration.

Party sources remain optimistic about their prospects in Kargil and have not given up on the possibility of gaining more support. Tsering Phuntsog, the AAP Ladakh UT president, acknowledged that this is their first contest in Kargil but emphasized that it’s just the beginning.

Phuntsog stated, “We have four candidates participating in the election. We have been conducting campaigns and held two road shows to engage with the public. Our party members are actively working on the ground.

“He further outlined the party’s agenda, addressing the daily concerns of the people, including unemployment, education, healthcare, development, and other local issues. Phuntsog highlighted AAP’s commitment to combating corruption, considering it a major threat.

Phuntsog also stressed that AAP offers an alternative for the people of Ladakh and that they are familiar with the Delhi model. He mentioned that people have responded positively to their campaign efforts, and he believes the party can garner strong support in the region.

It is worth mentioning that the schedule for the 5th general LAHDC elections has already been released by the election authority in Ladakh. The election is scheduled for October 4th, following a re-notification in line with a recent Supreme Court verdict. Additionally, the administration in Kargil has announced a paid holiday in light of the upcoming election.
